Mário Caetano is a Principal Researcher in Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Foundation for Science and Technolgy) where he is a scientific advisor for Earth Observation matters of the President. He is also an Associate Professor at Instituto Superior de Estatística e Gestão de Informação, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (ISEGI/UNL). Mário Caetano has a degree in Forest Engineering from the Lisboa University of Technology (1989), a MSc in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara (1995), and a Ph.D. in Forestry (2000) from the Lisboa University of Technology. Research interests include the use of remote sensing data for land cover land use (LCLU) characterisation and environment monitoring. He is particularly interested on satellite image classification algorithms, spatial and temporal pattern analysis and on accuracy assessment strategies. He is the author of more than 120 publications in books, journals and conference proceedings. Mário Caetano has acted as referee in many scientific journals related to his research area.
